Frostnip

Yesterday we were hit with a spring blizzard... this is what my hands looked like after only two minutes in the bitter cold, wind, and blowing snow - and I was wearing mittens! That's such a lovely shade of purple, don't you think? It took 20 minutes of tucking my hands under my armpits to get the color (and feeling) to come back to the fingertips.

This is your mother speaking...DON'T DO THIS AGAIN! Double up your mittens if it is really cold...and remember, mittens are warmer than gloves as you can curl your fingers if they get cold. This is not patriotic, even if they are red, white and blue!

Thank you for sharing the picture. I see it's been a few years and hope this hasn't happened again!
Given the brief exposure this is probably something called Chilblains (similar to frostnip). Would you mind if I used this picture for educational purposes to share with physicians/medical students?
Thanks!
