Zentangle #3

I tried doing one with a light coat of gesso over the photo first... it think it turned out pretty cool. These are really fun, easy, and quick!

Zentangle practice

I thought I would try doing some zentangles that look so fun... the Daffodil was my first try - using a magazine photo as a guide... it's only just okay:











I'm much happier with my second attempt - the daisies - also using a magazine photo but adding many more doodles to the background space.

These were really fun and I will definitely have to try some more... maybe swiping a thin layer of gesso on first to lighten the backgrounds... something to try any way...

Symphony Hall

One last house before I head for bed... This one is the Symphony Hall - I had originally planned it to be an Opera House but couldn't find the right elements to go with it.

Another House

I made another house today... I call this one the "Garment District." It didn't turn out quite how I had pictured it but I guess it's okay... the whole point is to play around with things so some results are bound to be better than others - not that I hate this one, I just don't love it.

Row House Swap

I joined my first online swap this week (other than the Paper Traders stuff, of course). I am signed up for Lenna Andrews' Row House Swap, which looks like a lot of fun! I made this little house today but I don't know for sure if I'll be using it for the swap or not... I just wanted to play around with the idea and see what kind of stuff I can come up with... then I'll put the best five results in the swap. I have plenty of time since it's not due until the end of August.

Happy Memorial Day

This morning I was treated to an air show by the US Air Force Thunderbirds. My apartment complex is located adjacent to the Air Force Academy and today they must have had an air show in honor of Memorial Day because the Thunderbird jets have been flying overhead, engines screaming loudly - it's so exciting! I stood out on my deck and watched them circle past over and over again, sometimes flying so closely overhead that I could see the jets' insignia in clear detail.

On this special occasion, I would like to just give a big THANK YOU to all of our servicemembers past and present, those lost and those who still valiantly fight on for freedom and justice in our own country and around the world. And also a special message to my dear friends who are serving today: KC Knoop, US Coast Guard; Christopher Collis, US Army, Fred Grant, US Army; Dave Williams, US Coast Guard - I love you guys, I love your wives and your children, and I appreciate the sacrifices that ALL of you make for each of us. God bless!

Monday's Update: The Thunderbirds were flying again today and I managed to get a few pictures this time...
